Far or Fast
If you want to go fast, go alone.
If you want to go far, go together.
In 2018 I met Hideto Hyodo in Tokyo; a talented acrylic craftworker, designer and artist. He has created a spirit level called Your Tool with opposing words sitting either side of the bubble, showing some of the challenges and contrasts of life. He asked me to collaborate with him and make a Survival Techniques version.
The tool I created above came from my constant struggle between far and fast. I have always always loved going fast (and have many resulting injuries) so I spend quite a lot of time trying to slow down in all areas of my life, to build something to last and with other people. It’s a constant challenge but I think it's useful to think about which you value most, especially as far and fast often don't exist together.
I think Hideto’s project is really fascinating and I’ve got many more pairs of words I’d still like to paint.
