Ubuntu original painting
Ubuntu is a Nguni Bantu word that is often translated as 'humanity towards others'. Desmond Tutu said: 'A person with Ubuntu is open and available to others, affirming of others, does not feel threatened that others are able and good, based from a proper self-assurance that comes from knowing that he or she belongs in a greater whole and is diminished when others are humiliated or diminished, when others are tortured or oppressed.’
Hand painted, acrylic on wood.
A3 size (420mm x 297mm).
This is part of a series of paintings of individual words that describe beautiful happenings or philosophies that speak of our shared humanity. During the Covid-19 crisis, we are all going through an especially challenging time and I have found discovering these words to be grounding and has often evoked a sense of peacefulness.
