What We Need Is Here limited edition art print
Originally a mural celebrating nature in the mountains of Japan, and now words that have centred me closer to home as I ride the parenting rollercoaster and figure out who I am all over again.
During a particularly low time, whilst feeling like motherhood had left little of my own self intact, I got on my bike and rode up to the South Downs. As I crunched over gravel and churned my legs uphill I felt so much joy, elation and relief at finding a part of myself again. The sun was out, the air was delicious and the views were awe inspiring. I have always felt best when outside and moving, but I’d lost sight of that in the fog of overwhelm.
These hills had been here the whole time, and my bike had been waiting for me in the hallway. Instead of making drastic changes to my life I just needed to remember what was already here.
The colours are inspired by the rolling hills of the South Downs as well as the red autumn leaves of Japan that framed the original mural.
This print aims to offer a quiet space to reflect on what we already have and what is already here.
Ideal for marking the centre of home. Or as a gift for those who thrive in nature.

Somerset Velvet 330gsm paper. An archival grade fine art paper (the highest quality), with a matt finish and an elegant texture. Made from 100% cotton and printed in Brighton, UK.
Hand finished deckled paper edges, accentuating the paper’s texture and fine art aesthetic. It looks particularly fantastic when the print is framed with a float mount.
The print will keep its vibrant colours and crisp detail for decades due to the museum quality materials and printing process. It’s easy to frame due to its popular size, with loads of off-the-shelf options, making finding the perfect frame for you or a loved one’s home a doddle.
The words of this artwork come from the title of a poem by Wendell Berry, one of my favourite poets.
This is artwork no. 3 in the Lessons of 2023 collection.
Please see ‘quality, packaging, shipping & poetry’ below for further info and the full poem.

What We Need Is Here by Wendell Berry
Horseback on Sunday morning,
harvest over, we taste persimmon
and wild grape, sharp sweet
of summer's end. In time's maze
over fall fields, we name names
that rest on graves. We open
a persimmon seed to find the tree
that stands in promise,
pale, in the seed's marrow.
Geese appear high over us,
pass, and the sky closes. Abandon,
as in love or sleep, holds
them to their way, clear
in the ancient faith: what we need
is here. And we pray, not
for new earth or heaven, but to be
quiet in heart, and in eye,
clear. What we need is here.
